Rajkot: Ahead PM Modi’s visit to his hometown Rajkot where he started his political career, heavy rains followed to the city where SAUNI inaugural took place. Rajkot’s Race Course ground was heavily water-logged while PM Modi was arriving in a meantime.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed the assistance kits to over 18,500 disabled persons and this movement took place in Guinness Book of World Record where at a single place, numbers of people gathered to get necessary aid from state government.

However, there was a tense moment when PM Modi was about to land and Race Course Ground, was full of waterlogged due to heavy rains prior to his speech and addressing the 18,500 disabled people at single instance.

Team of police and Rajkot Municipal Corporations rushed to the site and helped all the ‘divyangs’ to surpass the waterlogged area and grab their seat. In addition, officials took the steps to drain the water as fast as possible. This scenario took place when PM Modi was about to reach the diaspora in 5-10 mins.

To drain waterlogged area, pumps were used to remove water from main roads and other ways where PM Modi began initial road show from Airport.

Sources said that water pumps were put into service at the Race Course ground to remove the water. The hoardings, banners and equipment like tricycles, the main dome chairs were left in 2-3 inches of water. The fire department of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) was also called in to pump out the water from the ground.
