After a sudden health setback, DMK president M Karunanidhi’s health condition is better now and has shown vital signs of normalising health in the night with medical assistance at the Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet.
The DMK patriarch Karunanidhi was admitted in hospital on Friday after he caught fever and infection after ailing from health issues since long. After visits from a number of political leaders including vice president Venkaiah Naidu, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’ Brien, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit among others, crowds of supporters had gathered up near the Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet. On Sunday evening, when Karunanidhi’s health started deteriorating reportedly and frenetic movements were seen at the hospital.
The patriarch’s family members including wife Rajathi Ammal and children as well as DMK leaders were seen arriving at the hospital. The frenetic movement at the hospital triggered the supporters and thousands of anxious cadres rushed at the gates of the hospital, curious about the health of the veteran politician. In a bid to disperse the crowd, the hospital issued a number of bulletins confirming about the improvements in health of the 95-year-old ailing DMK leader. However, the crowd of thousands of cadres refused to leave even till close to midnight.
The massive crowds at the gates prompted Karunanidhi’s son and DMK’s working president MK Stalin to issue a statement reassuring the crowd that there was a sudden setback in his father’s health, but after intrinsic medical support and treatment by doctors, he was now recovering. Appealing the cadres to calm down and cooperate with the police, Stalin said, “I appeal to the cadres not to give scope for any untoward incident or cause any hardship to the public” and maintain law and order as the DMK Chief is eventually normalising.
