‘Be you’. Bengaluru gets a new brand new identity with a logo that defines the ethos of its cosmopolitan culture and becomes first Indian city to have its own tourism logo.
Brand Bengaluru now has its own logo that will give the city an identity, with a tagline – ‘Bengaluru – Be U’ (be you). With this logo, the city is expected to build itself an image at global level and becomes the first city in India to get its own tourism logo – so far, it was limited just to states. The logo was designed by Nammur, a design start-up, which won a contest and received a prize money of Rs5 lakh from the government. And the selected logo was chosen by the Department of Tourism from 1,750 entries received from people.
With a red and white typography in English and Kannada, the first two letters from ‘Bengaluru’, ‘Be’ and the last letter ‘U’ conveying the diverse culture- ‘Be U’, which is ‘Be You’. The seventh and eighth letters (U and R) resemble the vowel, oo, in Kannada. The unique tagline signifies Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan culture, a sense of belonging, 480-year history and futuristic outlook, and it defines the ethos of the city. Bengaluru has always welcomed people from different cultures, cities and all parts of the world, allowing people to do whatever they want to with its wide and open culture.
The logo was unveiled during the ‘Namma Bengaluru Habba’ festival at Vidhana Soudha on Sunday in presence of Bengaluru development minister K J George, Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao, Shantinagar MLA NA Haris, and Bengaluru mayor R Sampath Raj. The Namma Bengaluru Habba festival celebrates the rich heritage of Bengaluru and Karnataka through various art performances, cultural art, folk music and dances, street plays and much more. But the logo was the steal of the night and it is to give Bengaluru an identity of its own.
