The BSF jawans were executed by Pakistani intruders on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir which had left the whole nation in anguish. A week after the melancholy, one of the martyr – BSF head constable Prem Sagar’s wife received donation worth Rs 13.59 lakh from a portal called ‘India’s Bravehearts’ or ‘Bharat ke Veer’.

The portal was found by Union ministry in collaboration with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar. The money received was directly deposited into bank account of the martyred soldier’s wife. Dependents of other martyrs were up to 15 lakhs but their details were removed from the portal. The donations are over and above what the dependents of paramilitary personnel killed in action receive through central and state governments.

As per officials, they have received inquiries from NRIs to rickshaw drivers and even school kids who wanted to contribute to the deceased’s families through the website. Initially, the payment gateway was not taking donations from outside of India but the problem was soon resolved. The officials said that a school kid wanted to know as to how he can donate Rs 50 without a bank account and a rickshaw drivers asked about how to donate using mobile phone.

The ministry has requested RBI to grant the website permission to accept donations through PayPal so that overseas donors can easily donate money. The website has received overwhelming response and has collected more than Rs 2 crore for helping the martyr’s families within a month.

The website has listed 114 personnel from eight central paramilitary forces – BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, Assam Rifles, NDRF, NSG and SSB – are displayed on the website as of now. Anyone can donate as an homage to the bravehearts and an effort to provide support to their families. If they can risk their lives and everything for us, we must hold their families’ hands during tough times. Visit the website here.
