Chennai Super Kings boys are making all the noise as they capped a fairytale return after a two-year ban by winning the IPL title. Perhaps it was Shane Watson, the batting hero and one-man army in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) innings turned the fortunes to favour his team enabling CSK to lift the IPL trophy for third time beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL Finale.
Pressure of the big-fat IPL final weighed down the slowed down the pace of both teams had a slow start before the second-wicket partnerships picked the pace up in the Vivo IPL at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Batting first, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson couldn’t come up with momentum for Sunrisers Hyderabad; while the duo of Shane Watson and Suresh Raina demolished the famous bowling line-up of Sunrisers. But the star of the evening was veteran Australia all-rounder Shane Watson.
Initially, Watson did struggle to open his account for the first 10 balls against power packed bowling performance by Bhuvneshwar Kumar but thereafter he was out of control over SRH bowlers by striking many powerful blows against them. The star-of-the-day, Watson started Super Kings’ chase of 179 by playing out a maiden to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Watson with an unbeaten 117 (57b, 11×4, 8×6) hammered SRH bowlers including the mystery spinner Rashid Khan all around the ground, playing one of the most memorable IPL innings of his life and making the highest-ever individual score in an IPL final to seal the 2018 crown for CSK.
The super ton from 37-year-old Aussie all-rounder was in fact his second in the tournament and it came just at the right time when his team needed it the most. He was rightly chosen as the player of the match for his wonderful effort which sealed the deal for CSK clinching their third ever IPL title and making their return to the tournament after a ban of two years turn into a dream come back for the team. After this win, it would not be wrong to say that CSK deserved this title for being a pack of one of the most talented players of the tournament and with this victory they have proved their comeback as the return of super kings of IPL.
