Delhi’s maiden Indira Gandhi International Airport has been ranked as world’s number one airport for providing the best service quality while handling more than 63.5 million passengers yearly. And, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport has been ranked as the World’s Best Airport for customer experience – Indian airports making their way on top of the Airports Council International (ACI) – ASQ 2017 rankings.
With over 63.5 million passengers flying through the Delhi airport in 2017, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been ranked number one in the world on airport service quality ranking – under the Airports Service Quality (ASQ) 2017 list by the Airports Council International (ACI). With this, Delhi IGIA has surpassed international level airports like the Singapore’s Changi Airport and after South Korea’s Incheon airport. Apart from being the best airport in the world in terms of service quality, Delhi airport is now the 7th busiest airport in Asia and puts it among the top 20 busiest airports across the world in terms of passenger traffic.
The selection of best airports is done by quality specialists of the ACI, based on views of passengers for 34 key performance indicators – which includes airport access, check-in procedure, security screening, luggage processing, commutation within the airport, restrooms, stores, infrastructure, restaurant and waiting facility. As per Delhi IGI Airport authorities, the epic recognition is the result of collaborative efforts from entire workforce and stakeholders at the airport. Over few years, the Delhi airport has continuously seen outstanding development in terms of infrastructure and persistent upsurge in the number of passengers travelling there.
However, maintaining the top position is being taken as a challenge by the authorities and to ensure keeping it safe, they have huge plans for the coming year. The Delhi IGI airport will soon have a set of major expansion construction which will boost infrastructural facility and convenience for the continuously growing number of commuters. Besides Delhi IGIA, another Indian airport – Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport has been ranked as the World’s Best Airport for customer experience for 2017 by the ACI, which is a trade association of 1,953 member airports across 176 countries. So all in all, Indian airports are gaining international limelight for their services and quality.
