Every year, the Central Government releases an Ease of Living Index, listing cities of India in a chronological order for its living standard. The Ease of Living Index 2018 was released on Monday, recognising the best city to live in India this year.
The Ease of Living Index 2018 was released by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday, listing the best city to live in India. It’s not Mumbai, it’s not Bengaluru and definitely not Delhi – the best city to live in India as per the Ease of Living Index 2018 is Pune of Maharashtra. Pune is followed by – Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai, two other Maratha cities to completed the top three cities in the list of top cities for living with ease in India.
Other cities that made it to the top 10 are Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), the union territory of Chandigarh, Thane (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) and Bhopal (MP). And there are no signs of the national capital of India among any “top” categories as New Delhi has been ranked as low as 65 in the list. Whereas, the cities among the least liveable cities in India this year include – Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, the Nagaland capital Kohima and Bihar capital Patna.
The Ease of Living Index rankings are judged among 111 cities as per four different parameters like governance, and social, physical and economic infrastructure. The four parameters based on which the cities were judged were divided into 15 different categories and 78 indicators. Then, the cities are evaluated on 100-point scale out of which Pune received the highest score of 58.11 thus becoming the most liveable city in India this year. Not only does this analysis cover several metrics critical to track progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals in an urban environment; but it will also in turn encourage authorities concerned to know where to focus in the coming months.
