The Martian may have fictionalised the fantasy of living on Mars, but Elon Musk just revealed the cost of a ticket to Mars could be in future, and honestly, Mars colonisation already feels a step closer.
Although we know that with currently available technology and space travel options, sending humans to the red planet is still a far-fetched idea – let aside the idea of living on the unwelcoming planet. But there’s no wrong in thinking or talking about the possibilities, especially when you are Elon Musk. The Tesla and SpaceX owner has been all about Mars since years, and he had revealed his first plan to colonise the red planet back in 2016 – which was eventually ruled out by NASA citing it to be not feasible for at least a decade or so.
Then in 2017, Musk reiterated his plan to colonise on Mars and within a year, he declared that his space research company has made significant advancements and there is “70% chance that he may head to Red Planet by 2028”. Since then, he has been raising curiosity regarding the plans to travel to Mars – and adding to it, he recently revealed the possible cost of ticket to Mars in future. According to Musk, it could be something about $500,000, but can go as low as $100,000 or less in future, and if “you don’t like it there, coming back will be free”.
The ticket could be under the reach of millions of rich people who could be thinking of moving out of Earth, and heading to Mars. If you are one of those space fantasisers, and are easily influenced by Elon Musk’s futuristic views, you should also consider the statement he said, that “probability of people dying on Mars is much higher than Earth”. Currently, everything looks possible, but is still impossible and if you are really into the Martian life, starting to save from now would be the best idea.
