France to help India with manned space mission Gaganyaan

India and France have announced that their respective space agencies will work in collaboration to make ISRO's first manned space mission Gaganyaan, a success. Which means, ISRO and CNES will work together to launch India's landmark space mission by 2022.

During the Independence Day speech at Delhi, PM Modi revealed India's mega space plans 1 of launching country's first-ever manned mission called Gaganyaan before 2022. Days after the big revelation, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that they are planning to send a total of three astronauts into space 2via Gaganyaan. Considered to be one of the most important space missions by India, a successful launch of Gaganyaan would make India one of the four countries in the world after Russia, US and China to launch a manned space flight.

In a recent development at the sixth edition of Bengaluru Space Expo, French space agency Centro Nacional de Estudios Espaciales aka CNES president Jean-Yves LeGall announced that India and France will work together on Gaganyaan and a contract will be signed with ISRO soon. It has been reported that ISRO and CNES will amalgamate their fields of expertise; hence, CNES will support with space medicine, astronaut health monitoring, life support, radiation protection, space debris protection and personal hygiene systems. In fact, LeGall said that French space engineers at CNES have already begun discussions to support India's manned space mission.

Since the French space agency holds expertise in space medical research, they are likely to provide training to the future Indian astronauts at the MEDES space clinic. They are also looking forward to developing a microgravity facility like CADMOS where testing of Gaganyaan can be conducted. Perhaps this is not the first time Indo-French space cooperation as the two already collaborate in the field of climate monitoring, and also have plans to work on Mars, Venus and asteroids in days to come.
