At the F8 Keynote conference, Facebook announced that its messaging application Whatsapp will soon receive the group video calling feature and now, it is popping up for few selected Whatsapp Beta users of Android and iOS.

WhatsApp has already confirmed at the Facebook developer conference F8 Keynote that world’s most popular chatting app Whatsapp will soon receive group video calling feature, just like Facebook Messenger. In fact, Facebook had demonstrated group video calling for both WhatsApp and Instagram at the conference too. While Instagram is yet to receive any update, it seems like some WhatsApp on Android beta and iOS have started receiving the update which allows them to make group video calls – the Beta testing is on. While it is still available to selected Beta users and not for all, but it means the feature is most likely to officially roll out soon.

If you are a Beta user, the new feature seems to be live on WhatsApp iOS build 2.18.52 and Android beta version 2.18.145 and above versions. However, there has been no invitation and it ppears to be a limited roll out and only a select few will see the feature, even if they are on the correct build of WhatsApp, be it on iOS or Android. Users just have to be very lucky to see this feature, and WhatsApp seems to have randomly picked a segment of users to test this feature with. If you want to try out this feature before official launch, look out for update on Play Store or the new iOS version 2.18.52 which is available to all.

Once you have these defined versions of Whatsapp on Android beta or iOS you check if you have received this update. For that, you can make a normal video call. While making that call, if you find an option to ‘Add Participant’ that would mean your device is one of the very few smartphones to receive the update. WhatsApp group call feature will allow four participants in the call, this including the person who starts the call – that means, a user can add up to three participants at once. If you haven’t received it yet, well, hang in there because it is coming real soon.
