HeliTaxi, HeliTaxi anyone? Interested? India just got the first-ever air taxi in Bengaluru, called ‘HeliTaxi’ which connects Electronics City and the Kempegowda International Airport and the best part is that it is open for all.
The IT capital of India, Bengaluru has now become the first city in the country to open up air-taxi service for public usage – following the footsteps of Sao Paulo in Brazil. In Bengaluru, the HeliTaxi service is started off by a private firm called Thumby Aviation, which will operate two Bell 407 helicopters that can seat up to six people. The helicopter taxi service started off on Monday as the privately-owned HeliTaxi lifted off in the sky on Monday (March 5) to carry its first three passengers from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport to Electronics City. The transit time in the aerial taxi’s maiden launch-ride was just 15-minutes, while it takes two and half hours on an average if travelled by road.
The HeliTaxi service will operate in two shifts every day, focusing peak business hours – from 6:30 pm to 9.30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6.15 pm. This will enable business people visiting the city for work and will help them to cut out the commutation time. Not only will the HeliTaxi minimise and save traveling time and hassle, but it will also provide a thrilling and beautiful aerial view of Bengaluru – kind of like an aerial sight-seeing experience. This service can be availed by passengers arriving at Bengaluru’s international airport as the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is just at a distance of one kilometre. It will also help those who get late for flight and you don’t want to miss that flight.
But, as always, everything good comes with a price tag, and so the HeliTaxi comes with quite a heavy price tag. The ticket for one-way ride in the HeliTaxi is Rs. 4,130 per seat and includes the drive from the airport terminal to the helipad in the premises. Oh and since you will be air-travelling, there are limits to what and how much you can carry, obviously. So HeliTaxi Passengers can carry luggage up to just 15 kilometres – nothing more than that; and anything extra will be sent out to destination with extra cost. However, there is an introductory offer of Rs 2,500 plus GST if you register with the service provider as a corporate.
