India is a Cricket crazy country and Cricket fever rises in India especially when there is an international Cricket match between India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, the hot news right now is that India has beaten Pakistan by 7 wickets to reach Women’s Asia Cup final.
Indian Women’s Cricket team continued their tremendous form in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament in Malaysia on Saturday by defeating the arch-rivals Pakistan by 7 wickets and securing their place in the final of the tournament. Chasing a target of 73 runs in 20 overs to win the match, it was Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who scored an unbeaten 34* to register an easy win over Pakistan. Needing just 3 runs to win in the last three overs, Kaur finished it off in style with a boundary in the first ball of the 17th over itself.
Prior to this match, both the teams had won three matches in the tournament and lost each against Bangladesh. This was a decisive contest with the winning team qualifying for the final of the Asia Cup tournament. Earlier, Ekta Bisht, who was declared as the player of the match had played an important role in distorting the Pakistan team led by Bismah Maroof by taking 3 wickets for 14 runs in her spell of four overs. Other than Sana Mir (20) and Nahida Khan (18), no other Pakistan batswoman were able to reach a score of double digits, finally managing a total of 72/7 in their 20 overs. Bisht dismissed Javeria Khan (4), Natalia Pervaiz (3) and the wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz (5) in the match. Apart from Bisht, Shikha Pandey, Anuja Patil, Poonam Yadav and Deepti Sharma took one wicket each.
India too was awestruck at the beginning of the chase with the in-form Mithali Raj getting out without scoring in the very first over by Anam Amin. Amin struck again in the third over as she dismissed Deepti Sharma for a duck as well. But thereafter, Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur settled their feet on the pitch and ensured they do not lose too many wickets. The duo added 65 runs before Mandhana was dismissed for 38. But by then, it was a too late for Pakistan to get back into the match as India has almost sealed the deal in its favour. India will now again face the Bangladesh Women in the final on Sunday. It is the only side which has defeated India in the tournament and thus it will certainly be a great contest to watch on Sunday for the Women’s Asia Cup trophy 2018.
