During the pre-dawn hours today, the Indian Air Force’s 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets carried out air strikes and dropped 1,000 kg laser-guided bombs on Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camps across the Line of Control (LoC) – a move seen as India’s surgical strike 2.0 on Pakistan in the wake of Pulwama attack.
After the terror attack claimed by allegedly Pakistan-backed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed on CRPF convoy in Kashmir on February 14, New Delhi had stated that “the sacrifice of 40 CRPF personnel will not go in vain”. Since the attack, India has been seeking international back in naming of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a “UN designated terrorist”. Acting to eradicate terror at the sensitive Indo-Pakistan border, the Indian Air Force reportedly crossed the LoC and conducted an air strike targeting terror camps across the border, during the early hours of 26th February, 2019.
As per reports, 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets took part in the operation that dropped 1000 kg laser-guided bomber missiles on terror camps across LoC at 3:30 this morning. ANI reports about anonymous sources states that the mission poised to be India’s surgical strike 2.0 was “100 per cent successful” and went on exactly as planned. The report also says that Pakistan-based terror outfit launch pads in Balakot, Chakoti and Muzafarrabad, and also the Alpha 3, control rooms of JeM were destroyed during the 20-21 minute air strike.
The Indian Army has reported to The Times of India that IAF jets struck terror camps in Balakot at around 3.45 am, Muzafarrabad at around 3.48 am and Chakoti at around 3.58 am, however, the data has not been independently verified. There has not been any official confirmation in the surgical strike 2.0 development from the government of the Defence Ministry, but a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) of the Central Government chaired by PM Modi was held in the wee hours of today morning, after the air strikes.
A number of Indian politicians like Omar Abdullah, Mamta Banerjee, Gajendra Shekhawat, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Tejashwi Yadav, Yusuf Jameel, HD Kurmaraswamy, Mayawati were among the firsts to laud the brave step taken by IAF. The nation awaits for Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale, who was part of the CCS meeting to give the first official reaction on the possible surgical strike 2.0 at 11:30 am.
