The Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has received the contract to develop and promote a mega project from a private company, worth Rs 550 crore for Mega Tourism Destination project at Bhairav Lanka in Andhra Pradesh.

Today, the state-owned tourism sector company Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has bagged its first-ever private infrastructure project for Andhra Pradesh tourism development. The MoU for the tourism project worth Rs 550 crore was signed by ITDC and a Hyderabad-based tourism firm named Suraas Impex Pvt. Ltd., today (April 14). Under this project, the ITDC will develop a mega tourism destination project, which will be located at Bhairav Lanka in Kakinada, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. This is the first of its kind project for the state-owned ITDC, which got preferred against several private contenders.

As per the MoU signed, ITDC will be the consulting as well as implementing agency for the entire Rs 550 crore worth tourism infrastructure project in Andhra Pradesh. The execution of this mega project shall be taken up in three stages that are preparing the DPR, implementation of project costing around INR 550 crores and implementation of the second phase of the project. With vast experience in travel industry being the prime mover in the progressive development, promotion and expansion of tourism in the country – Suraas Impex has big plans on mind with ITDC’s expertise.

Till date, the ITDC has completed 67 infrastructure projects which were covered under the umbrella of the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and various State Governments. Besides this, ITDC has also prepared more than 85 DPRs for various tourism projects in the country. However, the private sector project will be first-of-its-kind project for the state-owned ITDC, which bagged the project beating several private contenders – it is seen as a major step forward in the tourism sector in India.
