Indian Colts’ journey towards the upcoming FIFA Under 17 World Cup has already begun and it has been pretty relentless and determined as they have defeated the Italian U17 team by 2-0 in a friendly match in Arizo – Italy, ahead of the Championship.

A fabulous performance put in by the youngsters helped the national team to mercilessly defeat a strong Italian youth team at their home turf. This is remarkable as the European giants are at number 12 in the official FIFA rankings and India has just entered the top 100 for the first time in two decades! And with this pre-championship friendly game victory, India has surely rung some sirens.

Strikes by Abhijit Sarkar and Rahul Praveen has goaled their team a stunning win over the Azzuris. Komal Thatal gave a close strike at the 8th minute but it went whiskers past the Italians and again at 13th minute, Aniket came close to opening the goal but it was saved by the Azzuri goalkeeper. In the 31st minute, Abhijit Sarkar gave India the lead with one striking goal. India then pushed for a second goal but Italy managed to keep them out and keep the deficit to one goal at half time. India had a few chances to go ahead even in the early minutes of the first half and the it was the same story in the second too.

One more try at 59th minute by Aniket to covet a goal failed but finally at the 80th minute, Rahul Praveen bore fruits to the Indian Colts with a major unbeatable lead of 2. Italy could not qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup that will be played in India between October 6 and 28, 2017. The tournament will be played across six venues across the country with Kochi being the latest to be confirmed as ready to host the tournament.
