Want to breeze past toll gates? Here is great news – all the national highways will have electronic toll collection facility with at least one lane dedicated to vehicles with electronic tag device, known as FASTags, beginning September 1.
Toll gates can get hectic and are often congested with endless seeming queues, but no more because toll gates at all national highways are prepping up to get electrified. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched two applications MyFASTag and FASTag Partner. These apps will allow users to download RFID tags called FASTag, which will facilitate to make electronic toll payments. FASTag is a reloadable tag affixed on a vehicle’s windscreen having radio frequency identification (RFID) technology that is linked to a prepaid account for automatic deduction of toll charges and the vehicle is not required to stop at the toll booths for cash transaction.
So no need to wait in long long lines at toll gates! Is it a dream or what! The smart tags will be delivered at the doorstep in two days once the vehicle owner requests for the tag using MyFASTag app. And the second app – FASTag Partner is dedicated for business to business (B2B) purposes, will activate the old RFID tags and these will be converted into FASTags. All we have to do is order tags through the app and they would be delivered to the users’ doorsteps within 24 hours.
This dream will come true after October 31st as the NHAI plans to make all toll lanes RFID-enabled; but, at least one lane on all highways will be made RFID enabled from September 1st. After attaching the RFID card to your vehicle’s windshield, and when the vehicle will approach towards toll gate, a sensor will read the tag and deduct the fee automatically. This will immediately open the gates and you are good to go!
