FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar officials have invited members of India’s cricket World Cup winning teams from 1983 and 2011 to visit the country and attend the global football tournament that is awaiting for 2022.

While speaking at an award function in Mumbai on Sunday, Nasser Al Khater, CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 admitted he was unaware of how important cricket was in India. Speaking of it, Khater said, “I did not realise how big cricket was in India”. Some members from the 1983 World Cup winning team, members from the team the 2011 World Cup winning team were present at the award function, addressing to whom, Khater said, “I extend you a special invitation to come and attend the football World Cup in Qatar”.

Khater expressed how the football’s quadrennial showpiece that FIFA World Cup is, is for everyone to celebrate and hence, Qatar looks forward to welcome the members of India’s cricket World Cup winning teams in 2022. The 1983 team was led by legendary former skipper Kapil Dev, and MS Dhoni guided India to a second title on home turf after the Men in Blue defeated Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium after 28 years of gap – in 2011.

As Qatar prepares to host the mega football event, the Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli is getting ready for the run for bagging third World Cup title in England this summer. Besides cricketers, Qatar has also extended a special invitation for all Indian footballers to attend the big game in 2022 – the first FIFA world cup tournament being held in an Arab nation.
