Making passport application easy for citizens, Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj launched a new scheme which will facilitate any Indian to apply for passport from anywhere in India – irrespective of their permanent residential address.

Commemorating the sixth anniversary of the Passport Seva Divas on June 26, the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj has launched a new scheme for passport application, under which, anyone can apply for passport from anywhere in India without worrying about their residential address. As per this scheme, a resident of for example – southern India can apply for passport at her nearest Regional Passport Office or Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Delhi, where she is residing temporarily. This means that the passport will be processed from anywhere in India irrespective of whether the applicant’s residential address is falling under the jurisdiction or not.

Once applied in any Regional Passport Office, police verification for issuing the specific passport will be conducted at the address specified by applicant in the form – instead of necessarily having it to be done at the residential address. Later on, the will be printed and dispatched by the RPO selected for application submission by the applicant. Not only will this make passport application much easier and convenient, but it will also save the applicant from hassle of traveling back and forth to their permanent residence just for getting passport issued.

Alongside new easy rules for passport application, MEA Sushma Swaraj also launched the mPassport Seva mobile app which prove to be the host of new services. With the mPassport app rolled out for both Android and iOS, one can simply make new user registration, signing in to registered user account and application form filing to apply for passport. mPassport will also allow users to remotely schedule appointment and make payment for passport processing. Besides this, police clearance certificate, paying for passport services, appointment scheduling, application availability status, document advisor and fee calculator are included in the app too.
