In the fourth ODI at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Kohli-led Indian team scored a clinical victory over Sri Lankan team with an unbeatable difference of 168 runs!
The Indian team had already won previous three ODI matches against Sri Lanka and with strong confidence sprinkled with desire to maintain the stronghold, the seasoned Indian players started off the 4th ODI match at Colombo. On winning the toss, Kohli opted for batting first because the team hadn’t batted first since last three games – so why not. This decision turned out to be very witty for the Indian team as they scored a massive score of 375/5. The epic score was achieved despite a staggered performance from some of the very seasoned players of Indian team – thanks to Kohli’s 131 and Rohit’s 104 – which made merry on a battling batting for India.
The final boost for the great Indian score came from man of the match – Manish Pandey who scored 50 runs off 42 and MS Dhoni with 49 off 42. With this match, Dhoni also achieved his milestone of having played in 300 ODIs. The entire show from Indian batsmen proved to be an unachievable goal and after three matches, Sri Lankan team didn’t look like getting close to India’s imposing total. With a downpour of balls from Indian bowlers, Sri Lanka managed to score only 207 all out in 42.4 overs. The only noteworthy batting performance from Sri Lankan team was by Angelo Mathews who summed up a 70-run knock.
With a huge, huge difference of 168-runs, India clinically won the fourth ODI match at Colombo for a lead of 4-0, absolutely whitewashing the Sri Lankan team and making the entire series in its favour. This loss will give tough times to the Sri Lankan team which needed to win last two matches of the 5-series ODI to secure their qualification at World Cup 2019. The Sri Lankan team will now have to win the fifth match and also hope that the West Indies team doesn’t win more than three of their upcoming five ODIs against England – a tough one to crack.
