Instagram is becoming a safer social media platform as it keeps updating the app with various features that ensure the safety of its users as the picture-based social media has added few more features, yet again.
According to the Founder and CTO of Instagram, Mike Krieger, the users will now get more information about the accounts they want to follow, before they hit the follow button. Same as the system available in WhatsApp, Instagram is also planning to add a two factor authentication for third party log in in order to check and verify the originality of the users. As Krieger said, “We have been focused on the safety of our platform since the very beginning, and today’s updates build upon our existing tools, such as our spam and abusive content filters and the ability to report or block accounts.” He also said that he wants to build better strength and security for app and keep the spammers, fake ids and useless accounts away.
And for that, the new features will soon be provided on both Android and IOS applications. Most probably these features will be out by this September, simultaneously on both the systems. The first feature announced by Instagram is ‘About this account’. This feature is added for the users to get better information about the accounts they come across on this app. A lot of information about the user will be available due to this feature. E.g. when did the user join Instagram, where do they live (nationality and locality), mutual followers, changes in the username in the previous year, and the advertisement or endorsements done by the account (if any). This option can be accessed from the ‘Menu’ option from the user’s profile.
Verification of individual accounts will be done by Instagram on the basis of several other criteria. Each and every user will have to request the verification by themselves. For that, one has to Click on the ‘Menu’ option in ‘Settings’, and choose ‘Request verification’. For verification, one has to provide username, a legal identification and full name. This information however, will be kept confidential by Instagram.Users are also allowed to log in to Instagram from other third-party applications, with a little settings done as follows: go to the Menu, click on ‘Settings’, ‘Two-factor Authentication’ and ‘Authentication App.’ Instagram already has a report and block option for reporting the accounts that violate the community guidelines but by addition of these features it will become easier to spot such accounts.
