Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Kandla Port which is worth Rs 993 Crore and said that the port has potential to become one of the top Global Ports. This port will be a key harbour point with half-dozen sub-projects and will prove to be very important for international trade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday suggested that the Kandla Port Trust in Gujarat should be rechristened Deen Dayal Port Trust Kandla, commemorate the birth centenary year of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, founder of Jana Sangh, predecessor of BJP. Modi also noted that this port will turn out to be a key juncture for trade in Asia once Iran’s Chabahar Port is developed with Indian assistance. This will enhance the maritime facility and will make Kandla Port’s position prominent in the World Map.
A total of 6 projects under Kandla Port Trust worth Rs 993 Crore were inaugurated by Modi during his two-day visit to his election-bound home state – Gujarat. The development of international port in Gujarat will prove to be a vital pillar of economic growth and if they country wants to grow; it must have good ports for trade. Describing Kandla as ‘mini India’, Modi says, “Gujarat is known for its rich maritime tradition. This spirit continues even today. There is something very special about the land of Kutch and the people who live here. Good ports are essential for India’s progress.”
The Iranian Chabahar Port will be directly linked with Kandla Port and ranian cargo can come directly here and Kandla Port will establish itself in the world trade like ‘Angad’, a character in Ramayan known for his strength. This will definitely add to economy of Gujarat and India.
