The 13 km long Kochi metro is ready to inaugurate in April this year; it is India’s fastest developed metro project completed within a record time of 3 years and 10 months. The metro is stretched from a to Palarivattom and the fares are as low as Rs 10.
Kochiites have been waiting to ride the glitzy metro since three years and 10 months now, the wait is about to end in April this year. E Shreedharan, DMRC Principal Advisor said, “The inauguration of the 13 km stretch from Aluva – Palarivattom will be held in April this year.” Generally, a 6-7 km track is inaugurated in the first phase but Kochi metro will boast full 13 km track inauguration in the first phase itself.
Kochi metro has been successful in breaking the national record of the fastest constructed metro project in India. A 13 km long track was built in 3 years 10 months, whereas it took six waity years to complete the 10 km Chennai metro. Kochi was the first Tier II city to be sanctioned a metro train project by the previous Manmohan Singh government.
The exact date of the inaugural is yet to finalise by the Railway safety commissioner. The fares of Kochi metro are announced and you’ll just need Rs 10 to join the metro party. The next target is to connect Palarivattom – Maharaja’s College within upcoming four months.
