Five Harley Davidson bikes have been launched in Kolkata by state government to utilise it in special occasion and ceremonial visits of top officials and VIPs.
These bikes were purchased by government about two-months prior and it was first time showcased on the streets of Kolkata on August15, Independence Day. Undoubtedly, these bikes will not be utilised for other purposes, as reported by NDTV.
The bike model is Street 750s which is fully featured bike for Kolkata police with possessing cruiser typical front end and classic round headlamp. According to V Solomon Nesakumar, deputy commissioner of police, traffic department, these bikes are well-equipped and it is helpful to police in many ways, especially in VIP escorts.
The cost of Harley Davidson bought is Rs 5.5 lakh per piece. Although, it is also fact that Royal Enfield is the first choice for Kolkata Police Department but Harley Davidson will be special in its own way, which should not be compared at present.
The switch was that the Street 750 was a lot quicker and faster than the Royal Enfield motorcycles. It is also rumoured that the police force is in talks to also include TVS Apache in their fleet.
