The much awaited Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has finally made its way to Indian roads and the second generation Tiguan is VW’s second SUV in Indian market after the Touareg was taken off from the market.

The German carmaker has decided to jump into the SUV bandwagon just like every other automobile company is, to sustain in the Indian market. Hence, Volkswagen has finally launched their first ever SUV after the withdrawn Touareg in India. All new Tiguan is the second generation version of the outgoing first Tiguan and it is build based on Volkswagen’s ‘much-talked’ versatile MQB platform and is all set to compete other SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Toyota Innova, Isuzu MU-X and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Tiguan is available in two variants only – Comfortline and Highline, giving a miss to the base Trendline variant. The Comfortline variant costs Rs 27.68 lakh (Ex-showroom, Mumbai) while the Highline model will go for Rs 31.04 lakh. And the bookings will begin from June 2017. And as per statements from VW, Tiguan will be manufactured in India at the company’s Aurangabad manufacturing unit.

The SUV will be launched in diesel version only with a powertrain 2-litre TDI engine that is capable of churning 141 bhp and developing a peak torque of 340 Nm.  Power is sent to all four wheels through a 7-speed DSG gearbox and the amount of power going to each wheel is controlled by Volkswagen’s 4MOTION – Intelligent AWD system along with a mated turbocharged, four-cylinder oil burner.

Exteriors of Tiguan are subtle yet aggressive and aren’t blunt butch just like the SUV designs generally preferred in India. With LED headlamps, fog lamps, taillights, 17-inch or 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels (depending on the variant) and an electrically operated tailgate with an adjustable opening angle, the five seater SUV seems to be a pick-deal. The tough and impressive Tiguan offers an impeccable combination of safety, style, luxury and class leading performance.
