Just a couple of days after Nitish Kumar’s JDU appointed poll strategist Prashant Kishor as the second man of the party, Congress appointed one of its senior leaders Madan Mohan Jha as the new President of Bihar Congress – also known as Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC).

With the big 2019 Lok Sabha election inching closer, political parties have kick-started implementation of poll strategies, planning and campaigning. Recently, in a surprise move, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s political party Janata Dal United appointed a new member – Prashant Kishor, who was the man behind Modi’s 2014 election campaigns and will work for JDU in upcoming elections. Just two days post Kishor’s appointment, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi appointed a senior leader and former minister Madan Mohan Jha as the new president of the party’s Bihar wing.

Jha will now head the state’s political functioning and fill in the seat which was vacant since the removal of Ashok Choudhary on September 26 last year. The charges of president of BPCC were handled by then BPCC vice-president Kaukab Quadri, and will now be handed over to Jha. After Jha joining the office, Kaukab Quadri will continue as the state working president whereas Ashok Kumar, Saameer Kumar Singh and Shyam Sunder have also been appointed working presidents to conduct full-fledged functioning and electoral strategizing in the poll-bound state.

Other than the top-level appointments, Congress has also restructured the committee by forming a 23-member workforce for the BPCC. Among the top 6 appointments made for BPCC, Congress has not included any backward class as four of them are from upper caste, one from upper Muslim caste and one from scheduled caste. Perhaps, political analysts believe that the party is trying to retain its strategy of its traditional vote bank that focuses on attracting upper caste, Muslim and scheduled caste voters for upcoming elections in Bihar.
