The Miss Universe 2018 event final was held in Bangkok of Thailand and from among a total of 94 contestants from around the world, Catriona Gray from Australian-Filipino beauty from Philippines was crowned as the winner of this year’s Miss Universe contest.

Gathered at the most extravagant beauty pageant extravaganza at Bangkok were some of the most beautiful contestants from all around the world, enlivening the runways at Miss Universe 2018. As many as 94 contestants from various country took part in the event in hope to grab the title of Miss Universe for this year, including Nehal Chudasama from India for the long drought title of Miss Universe. However, unlike last year, Nehal couldn’t make it to top 20 finalists, losing the chance to win a double streak for India in international beauty pageants after Manushi Chillar.

At the end of the finale, the most prestigious beauty title of the year was awarded to the Australian-Filipino beauty Catriona Elisa Gray from the Philippines. This is the fourth time that the beauties from Philippines managed to bag the title in the history of Miss Universe. Catriona Gray was crowned by Miss Universe 2017, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who hails from South Africa, however, she has come a long way to win the title. Being a television host and a singer, Catriona has love for arts and she holds a Master’s certificate in Music Theory. On the philanthropic side of her persona, she is an HIV/AIDS advocate at Love Yourself PH and she volunteers as a Teacher’s Assistant to the students of Young Focus NGO too.

Perhaps it was the final question round that made her stand out among others, as when she was asked about the most important lesson she has learned in life and how would she apply it in her time as Miss Universe, Catriona  replied, “I work a lot in the slums of Manila and life there is very poor and sad. I have always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look for the beauty in the faces of the children, and I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining and to asses where I could give something and provide something”. The all-women jury found Catriona Gray’s thoughts as beautiful and decided to crown her with the title of Miss Universe 2018.
