UPI is believed to be the next payment system accepted by Indians. Many of top mobile developers have already featured UPI feature to send payments.
UPI is the best alternative to transfer money to others over mobile wallet, debit/credit card and NEFT. It just requires mobile number or UPI ID of beneficiary and payment gets transferred in single shot. Much time efficient and less to confuse than current transferring system of banks by internet. Developed by (National Payments Corporation of India), the service is available to mobile users through a number of banking apps.
Recently launched Google Tez is directly competing for BHIM and Paytm as it features secure, easy and integrated payment system, especially in Android. In addition to this, Hike Messenger, Flipkart, Uber and Truecaller are some of these apps which allow UPI payments too. In future Amazon & WhatsApp are also gearing up to bring payment system in India. Netflix is on-board too.
Leading shopping giant Flipkart is another player which offers the feature of UPI payments into its mobile app. It’s tied to Flipkart’s PhonePe wallet but doesn’t require users to have the app on their phone. To access it, select an item->Buy now->Continue and select PhonePe UPI.
It’s the only chat messenger in market which offers UPI payments. To access it Settings->Wallet->Send Money->VPA. The API and other backend support for UPI payment in Hike are being provided by Yes Bank.
Being key player in detecting spam SMS & call, Truecaller joined hands with ICICI Bank to provide UPI payments to every TC users. You can access UPI on Truecaller in-app menu->Payments->and verify mobile number.
Partnered with HDFC Bank & Axis Bank, Taxi & ride-sharing services Uber allows its user to transfer amount from bank accounts to bank accounts. Users can activate this in Payment->Add method of payment->UPI. However, this only works for users who already have a UPI account. The option to create a UPI account is not available on Uber.
The biggest mobile wallet of India, which possesses its bank too, Paytm has also integrated UPI Payment System in its app. Tap on it, select the amount and scroll down to other payment methods. Add money->other payment methods->UPI. The only caveat is that you can’t create a UPI account on it which means you should have a UPI account and virtual address to take advantage of the feature in Paytm.
