India’s bullet dream is about to turn into reality as Indian PM Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe will lay the foundation stone of first bullet train which will hail-faster-than-ever between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

India’s railway lines date 172-years old, but that doesn’t mean the country is still powering the coal-fuelled boogies (although they are as classy as it gets), India has braced technology. With metro rails running efficiently in many metro-urban areas and continuously expanding, it is time to step up with – those speedy fancy Japanese bullet trains. To fulfil this bullet-dream, a massive Rs 1.10 lakh crore will be spent to build a high-speed bullet train corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad; of which Rs 88,000 crore will be funded by Japan as ‘soft loan’.

To begin with, PM Modi and Japanese Shinzo Abe will be laying the foundation stone of India’ first bullet train on Thursday at Sabarmati Railway Station of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The train will cover a corridor of 508km taking in 12 stations within just 3 hours at a speed of 320-350 kmph. Of the 508km long route, 468km will be elevated, 27 km will pass through an undersea tunnel and the remaining 13 km will be the ground. The 12 stations that will be covered by bullet train are – Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Bandra Kurla Complex. Initially, the train will consist 10 coaches will carry 750 people and it will be expanded to 16 coaches with capacity of 12,00 people – in future.

Well but don’t start planning about travelling through bullet train yet! It is just the foundation stone laying ceremony, which means the bigger than real life dream will certainly take some 5 years to complete. Currently the deadline for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is December 2023, but Government might get buckled up and prepone the deadline to 2022 – which would be cool. Although the fares are estimated to be laying in range between airfares and AC First Class train tickets, the speed will make it all worth it, hopefully. This mega-project will face many, many challenges but it will boost Indo-Japanese trade and economic relations – for a speedy, bullet-train ridden India.
