Mumbai Indians, the blues and the golds have won the IPL T20 match against Kolkata Knight Riders and created the history by becoming the first ever team to win 100 T20 cricket matches.
The Rohit Sharma & Co team – Mumbai Indians played their 176th match against Kolkata Knight Riders in the ground of Eden Garden, Kolkata. Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by a comfortable nine runs to top the table as they will now have two chances to qualify for the IPL final. The Mumbai Indians, showing their bench strength, defeated the KKR and became the first team in the world to win 100 T20 games in their entire history.
The 30-year-old Mumbai captain, Rohit Sharma expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance and consistency and said, “Finishing on top of the table is something we spoke about at the start of the game. This is the end of the league for us and we wanted to play good cricket. That’s exactly what we did, we batted, bowled and fielded well. It was good to see and it goes on to show that we have a great bench strength. The boys have proved their bit whenever they’ve got opportunities. They have been proven match winners and it was a perfect case of playing a perfect game.”
But as they say it, no success comes without missteps, in fact MI have had quite a bumpy start. Their journey started in the inaugural season of IPL back in 2008 and the Sachin-led team’s first ever match was against the Royal Challengers Bangalore; they faced a defeat by 5 wickets and also lost another 3 matches back to back. Mumbai Indians tasted their first victory only in their fifth match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 29, 2008. And in 2010, they won the Champions League T20. They won the coveted IPL trophy for the first time in 2013 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and repeated the feat in 2015. That was then, and this is now, the MI have been unstoppable and have made a century of wins over past 10 years.
Out of 176 matches, the MI won 100, lost 73, abandoned 2 and tied 1 game. And there seems to be something fortuitous for the Mumbai Indians at the Eden Garden against the home team Kolkata Knight Riders.
