Becoming one of the most successful IPL teams, Mumbai Indians just won the IPL season for third time on Sunday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. And the most spellbinding thing about it is, they won over the Rising Pune Supergiants by ONE run! Yes, it was that crazy, that edgy and that dramatic!

Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians were poised to precipice with the power of Mitchell Johnson’s stupendous death bowling (three for 26) to choke any team and restricted RPS to 128 for five whose chase was to score 130 to beat MI’s 129 score. With the first batting low score of Mumbai Indians, Steve Smith led RPS seemed to have the game in their favour and there were times when hopes were high on Pune about taking the trophy home.

It was all okay until the last over and there were much expectations from Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwari as they just needed 13 runs from the over. But however, Mitchell Johnson, with his death bowling, spoiled the party for Pune by bowling the 20th over and strictly defended the opposition team. Johnson not only dismissed Tiwary off the second ball but also took the crucial wicket of Smith off the third, who had scored a half-century by then.

The game was still in RPS’s hands as they needed 7 from 3 balls but the balls were in Johnson’s court and boy, is he a skilled bowler! Dan Christian was also rut out at the last ball, making it a historic one run victory for Mumbai Indians. Neeta Ambani owned IPL team becomes the most successful team and Rohit Sharma becomes the most successful IPL captain with three victories under his captainship and one victory with the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. It was Mumbai Indians’ first win against Supergiant this season after losing both its league matches and also the first qualifier. Mumbai Indians’ earlier IPL titles came in 2013 and 2015.

Sharma said that he believed and had faith in his team and that the victory was possible because of players’ freedom in the team. The celebration kicked off right away at the stadium which continued with night as the players reached their hotel. They were felicitated by Bollywood celebrities and hotel staff. But of all the celebration, the moment they crowned it was the best and couldn’t get better than that. And at the end, a question – how would you feel if you lost by one run or you won by one run?
