Passport application is creates a lot of ho-hum in India considering the limited number of passport offices and a huge number of applicants each day. Keeping this issue in mind, Shashi Tharoor announced on Monday that citizens will be able to apply for passports from post offices very soon.
Remember the passport application queues and the fixed appointment timings for passport? It is one tedious task, right? There is some mitigating news; a 15-member delegation of Parliamentary Standing Committee of External Affairs which is led by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor stated their proposal of initiating the passport application service from post offices soon. During their stay in Amritsar, the committee members visited the Amritsar Passport Office and interacted with the officials and passport seekers.
According to Tharoor, there was a need to upgrade all post offices in the country with latest infrastructure since there was vast availability of post offices, one can find it in every nook and corner of the country, even in remote villages. He also said that around 86 post offices have already started working in this regard so that people can easily apply for passports. The Committee members also visited the Golden Temple in Punjab and paid tributes at the Jallianwala Bagh on Monday. The delegations are to meet the Custom and BSF officials at the ICP Attari/Wagah border.
