Applauding the launch of Ayushman Bharat scheme launched recently, BJP Tamil Nadu’s party chief Tamilisai Soundararajan and her husband claims to have nominated the name of PM Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize 2019.

Touted to be the ‘biggest’ government-sponsored healthcare scheme in the world and a “game-changer initiative to serve the poor”, the recently launched Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has gained nation’s attention. Although the budget passed for PMJAY scheme might be effectively insufficient to serve even 1% of its proclaimed beneficiaries, the healthcare scheme “will benefit a total of 500 million people from 100 million families all over the country”.

Applauding the “path-breaking initiative” of the “visionary” of the PM Modi, BJP’s Tamil Nadu Party Chief Tamilisai Soundararajan nominated Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize for launching the revolutionary healthcare scheme. Her husband, Professor Dr P Soundarajan, Head of Department and Senior Consultant in Nephrology at a private university too nominated Modi’s name for the international peace accord. Furthermore, Tamilisai has also appealed university professors and parliament members to join her in nominating the Prime Minister for the honoured recognition.

Whilst Tamilisai has nominated Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize 2019, it must be noted that the five Indian states including Telangana and Kerala have denied implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme because they stated that their current healthcare schemes are much more effective. Also, the Nobel Peace jury has often been criticised for granting the honour of a peace laureate to leaders like Henry Kissinger from the US, Aung San Suu Kyi from Myanmar and even Barack Obama from the US for politically motivated ways for more recent or immediate achievements. In that case, PM Modi too can become a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
