National rail carrier Indian Railways has started off with their mega-recruitment drive across the nation to fill up 89,000 vacancies of Group C and D employees and revive the railway ministry system.

On Wednesday, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced about the railway recruitment drive via Twitter. With 89,000 vacancies in the Indian Railways, this will be the largest ever recruitment drive for this year in India. The mega-recruitment drive of Indian Railways has already begun and the government department will hire 89,000 Group C and D employees – including assistant loco pilots, technicians, gang-men, switchmen, trackmen, cabin men, welders, helpers and porters. The massive recruitment drive, the Indian Railways will have better and more efficient workforce, which will help the railways in reviving the railways’ functioning and networking system.

As per the announcement, the entire drive is integrated recruitment for the entire Indian Railways network, including Delhi Metro and the ring rail system. Of the 89,000 vacancies, 62,907 jobs belong to Group D which will provide employment chances to the people with lower educational background. For Group D, vacancies are open for candidates who have passed Classes X or have an ITI (industrial training institute) diploma. Whereas for Group C, similar process will be conducted to fill out 26,502 vacancies for posts like technicians and loco pilots.

The jobs are open for those who fall under the age group of 18-31 years and the last date of submission of application forms will be March 12, 2018. The aspirants who will clear the recruitment procedure by Railway Recruitment Cell will receive salaries as per the Seventh Central Pay Commission (Level 1). This means, the Group D employees will directly receive a monthly salary of Rs 18,000 and additional allowances – as per the 7th pay commission. The massive recruitment drive will cost Rs 3000 to 4000 crore annually but the big chunk of exchequer will make the Indian Railway workforce much more effective.
