The 141st annual festival of Jagannath Rath Yatra begins today, and to ensure safety of lakhs of devotees attending the chariot festival, tight security arrangement with more than 20,000 cops have been deployed to ensure the festival is conducted smoothly.
The 9 days long annual chariot festival, the Jagannath Rath Yatra has begun today and lakhs of devotees would congregate in the pilgrim town of Puri as the procession is conducted. The procession is expected to stretch up to 1.5km and will cover an area of 15km on road as it returns to the Jagannath temple in Jamalpur. The yatra will have 18 elephants, 101 trucks, 30 Akhadas, 3 Raas Mandals, 18 Bhajan Mandals and three chariots. While devotees are prepping up for Rath Yatra, the police department is geared up and ready to roll to ensure security and smooth conduction of the procession. More than 20,000 cops have been deployed – including 140 platoons of police force and 1,000 officers who will continuously keep check on obstacle free chariot festival.
