New Delhi: Reliance Jio intends to two fold its network size with the addition of 1 lakh excessive mobile sites in following months. The business said that in terms of data usage it “has become the largest network globally” and plans to add one lakh mobile sites in arriving months to double the network size.

Reliance Jio has revealed so it has over 108.9 million active and new users at the time of March 31. Jio had crossed the 100-million mark the business crossed in February, which makes it the initial Indian telecom operator to achieve a subscriber base of 100 million users in less than six months of launch.

“Jio continues its rapid ramp-up of subscriber base and as of March 31, 2017, there were 108.9 million subscribers on the network,” Reliance Jio said in a statement.

“Jio users are today consuming nearly as much data as on all the mobile networks in the US and 50 per cent more data than mobile networks in China in a clear indication that India will adopt digitisation and Digital Life faster than anyone else in the world,” said Jio in a statement via PTI.

“As per TRAI MySpeed Portal, Jio’s average download speed of 15.0 Mbps in March 2017 is almost twice of any other operator…Jio has the world’s largest greenfield 4G LTE wireless broadband network, with over 100,000 mobile towers. And it will add another 100,000 towers to the network in the coming months,” the statement reads.

Besides, Jio has been expanding its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) business offering with beta trials initiated in a few locations.

“It would expand the scope of the beta trials over the next few months,” the statement said.

The business launched its 4G service in a commercial sense on September 5, 2016, free of charge and crossed 50 million subscribers in just 83 days, and 100 million in 170 days, adding at the average rate of 6 lakh subscribers a day.

Jio subscribers opting for Jio Prime have to pay one-time plan fee of Rs 99 and then choose monthly rental plan starting 303. The company introduced another plan with monthly rental starting Rs 309 for Jio Prime members.

Reliance Jio Infocomm experienced over 70 percent of the subscriber base go for paid Prime membership once the free offer finished. Depending on last data, 72 million subscribers are active Jio Prime members. The data for active users under Jio Summer Surprise and Dhan Dhana Dhan offers is currently unknown.

Jio is taking a look at widening its network and is intends to set up over 100,000 towers, as well as the existing 100,000 from coast to coast. Capital expenditure when it comes to active quarter is pegged around Rs 18,000 crore, just like the January-March quarter. Up to now, Jio has invested over Rs 2 lakh crore on improving network services.
