Just in case if you missed it, March 10 was MAR10 Day (Mario day, geddit?) and to celebrate the classic Nintendo game character’s day, Google has brought up the iconic Super Mario into Google Maps and it is funnn (yes, fun with two extra ns).
Super Mario, a super nostalgia for most 80s-90s kids and is still one of the most popular classics game, because Mario Forever, you know? So Google has now come up with something that can give you a chance to actually ride along with world’s most famous moustachioed plumber game character, Mario. In celebration of the National Mario Day, Google has announced that it has partnered with Nintendo to bring Mario to Google Maps. So anyone using Google Maps can swap the traditional maps navigation interface arrow with Mario in his iconic go-kart! No more boring red pointer navigator!
To enjoy this feature, well, you’ll first need Google Maps app on your smartphone, duh! If you are an Android user, it will be a default app and look up on App Store if you use iOS and don’t have Google Maps installed yet. Now you will have to start navigation to a particular location. Next to the ‘Start’ button, where will be a ‘?’ icon in the shape of the ‘? block’ from the Mario series of video games. Tapping that will give drivers the option of switching to Mario by selecting the “Let’s-a Go” button. Once enabled, users would notice that the regular navigation arrow has morphed into Mario – the 1990s’ video game character.
He’ll be a constant companion wherever you’re driving this week-to work, to school, or the spaghetti house. I repeat – THIS WEEK. So switching to Mario mode option will only be available for this week. Just look out to practice safe driving on the road and don’t throw bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life. Mario’s companionship on trips will make it more fun, especially for those fans who hum the Super Mario Bros. background music on repeat and look for Princess Peach from Bowser.
