Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal defeated Japanese top player and world no 2 Akane Yamaguchi in the second round of Denmark Open today to enter the quarterfinals.d

Saina Nehwal just made it to the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open after defeating her contender of the day – world no. 2 Akane Yamaguchi in the second round of the tournament in Odense today as she defeated Yamaguchi 21-15, 21-17 in just 36 minutes in a lopsided contest. This was a challenging match for Saina as Yamaguchi had earlier won six of their seven previous matches before this tournament – with four of those wins were from the Denmark Open tournaments.  It was an interesting match also because both Saina and Yamaguchi have won the Denmark Open previously – with Saina in 2012 and Yamaguchi in 2016.

For the Denmark Open quarter finals, Saina will face world no 1 Nozomi Okuahara as she defeated Saena Kawakami 21-15, 21-14 in the semi-quarters. That will be a fierce match again as Okuhara has only won four of her 10 career meetings against Saina, but she did will all last three matches. The expectations are high from Saina as she is the only Indian left in the women’s singles draw as PV Sindhu exited this year’s Denmark Open after losing in the first round to USA’s Beiwen Zhang. Especially with her being the only women and one of the only three Indians to have won the games along with Prakash Padukone and Kidambi Srikanth.
