Space travel has been human fantasy since ages, and although space travel is very real today, it is still not accessible to all – at least not until – 2022. Because by then, we might have a full-fledged space tourism option – with a newly built luxurious space hotel named Aurora Station within four years.
A Houston-based space company – Orion Span is planning to build luxurious space hotel named Aurora Station -about 200 miles away from the surface of Earth. Aurora Station will be able to host six people – which means up to 4 tourists and 2 crew members in a single trip which will last for 12 days as they race around the world. Unlike any regular trip, visitors will enjoy the exhilaration of zero gravity and fly freely throughout Aurora Station, gaze at the northern and southern aurora through the many windows, soar over their hometowns, and stay in touch or live stream with their loved ones back home via high-speed wireless internet access.
However, the trip will be possible only after undergoing a three-month training course focused on basic spaceflight, orbital mechanics, and life in pressurized environments in space; and all this will cost you about $9.5 million (roughly Rs. 62 crores) per person – or about $791,666 a night (Rs 5 crores), including 80,000 (Rs 52 lakhs) refundable deposit. At this cost, space travel might still not become very “accessible to all” as it easily excludes roughly 99 percent of the population on earth who will not be able to afford it. But, nobody ever said space tourism would be cheap.
So if you have the will, and the crazy amount of money – your holiday in 2022 can be at a place which witnesses 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets in a single day, surrounded by absolute peace and silence, the sky is clearer, the stars seem nearer and there’s hardly anyone around for hundreds of miles – with you in the “world’s first luxury space hotel,” orbiting 200 miles above the earth, and they are already taking reservations – all you need to pay for now is fully refundable $80,000 deposit; and remember, there are just four seats.
