As football and Indian football team is gaining recognition in India, the star striker and captain of Indian football team – Sunil Chhetri was named as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year for 2017.
Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri gained has become a well-known face, especially after his video pleading people of India to watch them play football went viral. With an epic win at the 2018 Intercontinental Cup and becoming the second Indian footballer to play 100 international games after Bhaichung Bhutia, Sunil Chhetri has become the face of Indian football. After achieving major feat, the star striker of Indian as well as Bengaluru FC teams have been named as the 2017 All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year by the national football body.
Alongside Chhetri, the AIFF executive committee has named Kamala Devi as the AIFF Woman Player of the Year and young emerging star player Anirudh Thapa is this year’s AIFF Emerging Player of the Year. The All India Football Federation intends to encourage football players and besides winning the Asian Games in Macau, the Indian football team intends to play in the FIFA 2022, Qatar.
