Savji Dholakia, a diamond merchant from Surat recently gifted three Mercedes-Benz GLS SUVs worth Rs 3 crore to three of the senior employees of his company.
Savjibhai, popularly known as Savjikaka in the Saurashtra region is the owner of Hari Krishna Exports a firm dealing in manufacturing and export of diamonds. Known for making headlines every year for giving out expensive items as gifts to his employees since 2011. This year, it got bigger as Savjibhai gifted Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d SUV to three of his employees – Nilesh Jada (40), Mukesh Chandpara (38) and Mahesh Chandpara (43) who completed 25 years at the company.
The car keys were handed over to them by former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel while Madhya Pradesh governor also attended the ceremony. The on-road price of the car in Surat is about Rs 1 crore and it is said that this is a gesture to applaud all three employees who had joined the company while they were in their teens. Initially they joined as diamond polishers and learned to cut and polish the diamonds, but with the experience, they have turned into senior-most experts and most trustworthy personnel in the company looking after key departments of management, cleaving and manufacture.
Savji Dholakia, who had come to Surat in 1977 on a state transport bus with just Rs 12.5 with him as ticket fare prior to establishing over Rs 6,000 crore diamond business. But today, he is known for his generosity of gifting expensive stuffs like cars, homes, diamonds and jewellery to his employees. With a gifting budget of Rs 51 crore, he had gifted 400 flats and 1,260 cars to his employees on the occasion of Diwali in 2016. In the previous year, he had gifted 491 cars and 200 flats as Diwali bonus to around 1,200 of his employees. Presently, the company employs more than 5500 people with an annual turnover of Rs 6,000 crore.
