Ajay Jayaram, Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth securing 13th, 14th and 15th places among the top 15 of the latest Badminton World Federation Rankings which was released on Thursday. This is the first time Indian male shuttlers have secured 3 places in top 15.
India has shown its sheen when it comes to women badminton, but for some forsaken reason Indian male shuttlers have struggled for their places in top 15. This is the first time ever that 3 Indian men are among the top 15 badminton players at international level. Also, two other badminton players – Sameer Verma and HS Prannoy hailed among the top 30 with 28th and 30th place respectively. Sai Praneeth has shown the most significant hike with moving 9 ranks above after winning the Thailand Open on Sunday and beating his Indian counterpart Kidambi Srikanth to achieve Singapore Super Series title back in April.
The Badminton World Federation Rankings top list is still dominated by Chinese players with four of ten players in the top 10 list. The topmost position is secured by Malaysian badminton player Lee Chong Wei followed by South Korean player Son Wan-ho. Indian women player P V Sindhu has secured third rank in the BWF World Rankings for women.
This is an achievement for India and the players still have a long way to go and shine on the top. And their next chance begins from next month as the shuttlers are gearing up for Indonesia Open on June 12-18. Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu, Sai Preethan and the duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy for doubles badminton will take part in the Indonesian Open.
