The Haryana Urban Local Bodies Ministry said that, the second rank holder of UPSC exams 2017 – Anu Kumari has been named as the brand ambassador of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save girl child, educate girl child) campaign in Sonipat district of Haryana.
The 31-year-old and mother of 4-year-old Haryani lady Anu Kumari has gained a lot of attention after the UPSC exam results were announced and Anu secured overall second rank in India. After the results, Anu Kumari had expressed her wish to work for the country and especially work to empower females in India. In the recent development, Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain announced that the UPSC second rank holder Anu Kumari has been named as the brand ambassador of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign in Haryana’s Sonipat district.
Aiding the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Anu Kumari will help with the campaign that is targeted to spread awareness and inspire people to change their mind-set towards female child. Besides spreading awareness to people to save and educate female children, Anu Kumari will also stand out as an inspiration for girls wanting to pursue their career to serve for the nation through UPSC Civil Services Examination. Being a mother of four-year-old son, she stayed away from her child and husband for over a year to prepare for the exams. Talking about this she said, “For over a year I stayed in Sonipat at my aunt’s place. All this while I was away from my child. Even though it was difficult, he was the reason I felt motivated.”
Much before going through the training as a bureaucrat, Anu Kumari would be able to begin her work in empowering women as the brand ambassador of Beti Bachao program. Congratulating Anu Kumari for her feat, Kavita Jain said “It is a matter of pride not only for Sonipat but for entire Haryana that a daughter from an ordinary family has proved her mettle in civil services exam. She (Ms. Kumari) emerged as an inspiration in changing the mindset of people towards the girl child.”
