Vinod Khanna, the veteran actor and politician, passed on during the age of 70. He was reported to be struggling with cancer. Let me reveal a timeline associated with the life of a Bollywood star. The former Bollywood star was also a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party person in the Lok Sabha through the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab.
The year was 1980. Actor Vinod Khanna was riding at the top of the prosperity of his films The Burning Train and Qurbani. While Khanna’s fans expected him to increase the momentum, the actor had another thing on his mind – every one of an abrupt, he stopped all his projects and started initially to return producers’ money.
Khanna was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai. While he was reportedly hospitalised due to severe dehydration, he had been reported to be improving and giving an answer to treatment. But today news of his death came as a blow to his fans and admirers because it has left a big void in the world of Indian cinema.
Impacted by Osho, Khanna soon started to wear an orange robe, normally donned by the spiritual guru’s disciples. You can find stories of how he would insist that directors let him wear the orange attire even on sets.
Khanna had a lengthy Bollywood career, that was followed closely by a successful stint as a politician. Probably the most sought after actors in 1970s and 1980s, he had started his movie journey because of the film called Man Ka Meet. Khanna and superstar Amitabh Bachchan have generated many box office hits, including Hera Pheri (1976), Khoon Pasina (1977), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Parvarish (1977) and Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978). Intriguingly, in the peak of his success, Khanna had suddenly chose to renounce the field of fame and followed the spiritual guru, Osho Rajneesh. Later, he returned to the big screen after a gap 5 years.
Sadly as he was at the most truly effective in 1980, he renounced his stardom and sought solace in to the Bhagawan Rajneesh’s ashram. At this stage, he was truly the only serious challenger to Amitabh, who could topple Amitabh into the box office. Vinod followed Rajneesh to Oregon, where he busied himself with gardening. Till he decided it had been wiser to allow his spiritual self-coexist with all the material world.
Khanna married twice. From his first marriage to Kavita he previously two sons that are themselves actors – Akshay Khanna and Rahul Khanna. Later, he married Geetanjali and has now a son and a daughter together with her.
