Beating strong contenders like the Range Rover Velar and Mazda CX-5, the Volvo XC60 has made a history by winning the World Car of the Year trophy 2018, during the New York Auto Show; a major addition after winning the North American Utility of the Year Award earlier this year.
Swedish luxury car maker Volvo’s luxury SUV – the Volvo XC60 was named to be the World Car of the Year 2018 at the global-standard New York motor show. Moving past strong competitors like the Range Rover Velar and Mazda CX-5, Volvo has made a history in New York. Why history? Because Volvo has pulled off a clean sweep of car trophies over the last year – including the North American Utility of the Year, the Japan Car of the Year for its XC60 SUV and the XC40 picked up the European COTY gong. After all these wins, the World COTY award is the icing on a very big cake that includes accolades from just about every corner of the globe.
Also, this is the very first time ever that Swedish Volvo has won the World COTY award and it is the very first time that one single car manufacturer has collected four major car awards in one year. Besides the four major awards, Volvo has scored other awards too like the XC60 triumphed in the UK Car of the Year and was named Car Technology Brand of the Year and Best Safety Technology winner for its revolutionary Steering Support System. So all in all, it has been a gala year for Volvo – and doesn’t all this justify calling it a ‘historic victory’?
Moreover, the Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson, who orchestrated this brand reinvention under new Chinese owners Geely Ltd has also crowned World Car Person of the Year at the inaugural presentation of the award at the Geneva Motor Show. All this fits so well. An amazing head for an outstanding annual performance. And if you are willing to get your hands on the World COTY, it is available in India at Rs 55.90 lakh in a single inscription trim. It is a bargain deal, after all, its COTY.
