Whatsapp has yet another update for Android Beta users which kicks in some new features in the Whatsapp Payment section which enables users to scan QR codes and make payments.
Whatsapp is going beyond the boundaries to make itself a unique standalone mobile application which is more than just an internet-based chatting platform. Over time, Whatsapp has evolved significantly and it allows 1.5 billion monthly users to send documents, media files, make voice and video calls and set 24-hour format Status – besides the standard chat exchange service. Recently, Whatsapp even introduced Whatsapp Business option which allows companies and business firms to make formal contacts and deals via the same platform. In a bid to make it more meaningful and useful to all, Facebook-owned chatting platform had introduced a feature called ‘Whatsapp Payment’ which allowed users to make money transaction through the app.
If these bundles of features weren’t enough, Whatsapp is now already testing a new QR code-based payment feature that makes simpler to make payments. So far, Whatsapp Payment just had the UPI ID option to make monetary transactions – but now beta users on Android now have this option of QR code payment and adding more functionality to the payments function of the world’s most popular messaging app. With this feature, making payments could be as easy as scanning a QR code, similar to the online payment wallets like Paytm. However, the company has clarified that the option is only available to beta-testing and limited to under a million users, as of now.
In case you are one of the beta testers, you will need WhatsApp version 2.18.93 installed on your device – which is available through Google Play Beta programme. Once you have it installed, you will need to go to Settings > Payments > New Payments > Scan QR code. You will now be directed to the QR code scanning option that will ask you to enter the amount you wish to send and it will also ask for UPI PIN for verification. A user will then have to point the camera to the QR code and the payment will be completed. If and when rolled out for all users, this feature will make Whatsapp even stronger and efficient platform.
